The face behind DailySpanishBits.
If you've reached this far it's because you're curious about the person that makes videos on Instagram or the person that's teaching you Spanish for some time now ( I'm talking to my lovely students here 😍)
Welcome to my cosy space at DailySpanishBits which I hope helps many, many learners!
Let's move on to what you may be wondering about...
I'm a person that has always loved languages and words and that has dedicated her time, and passion to learn new ones and also to learn how to learn them.
It's difficult to trace my love towards languages. What I can say is that there’ve been many things that've inspired me to learn them…
👉My passion for Harry Potter lead me to learn English and later to move to England at the age of 18.
👉My love towards French philosophy motivated me to learn French and later on to move to France at the age of 23.
👉My interest to be able, one day, to read the Coran encouraged me to start learning Arab.
👉The lost of hearing of my mum lead me to learn Sign Language.
All of these decisions and learnings couldn't be better translated to this:
I got to experience all that. I got to connect with some amazing English people who taught me a different way of living. At that time, I was happy when I was told things like " You sound so British" or "you know so much about our customs" . It really made me feel as if I was part of that world, and it also made me find out another version of myself.
I was the English version of ME. But then...
I decided that I wanted to repeat the experience in France. After all, a life full of pains au chocolats and croissants seemed too appealing🤤 .
Sadly, I didn't have the same experience.
I got to work in a place where people laughed about my accent, and made me feel excluded. It wasn't late until I heard jokes about Spanish people, about my roots, and I really got to experience the exclusion of being of another country. As a result, I became more and more isolated and got involved in a more Hispanic environment, which didn't help with my confidence nor my learning at all.
I learned that I shouldn't be ashamed of my accent or mistakes just because some people were laughing at me. I was making a huge effort to integrate and if some people didn't see it, that didn’t mean that everybody was going to be the same. I then learned to laugh about my mistakes, have fun finding different ways of learning and learned to be more indulgent with myself and the effort I was doing.
It was back then when my mission became cleared than ever: I wanted to help other expats, Hispanic community - surrounded people, and English teachers feel comfortable in their new environment just as I did back in England, giving them the tools to overcome the struggles that people find when mixing up with another culture.
